Born in Paris to a Hungarian mother and a gypsy father, Kristin Molnar was introduced to the violin by him at the age of 4. She is a graduate of the Conservatoire de Musique de Québec (First Prize), the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest and Laval University (Masters in Interpretation). She has also participated in numerous advanced violin courses, notably with Pierre Amoyal and Yehudi Menuhin.
Her personal quest towards her Roma origins led her to collaborate on various Eastern European music projects. She is one of the pioneers of the genre in Quebec within the Raoul formation, winner of a Félix "world music" in 1996. Eventually she will branch off on the side of Spain continuing on the road of the gypsies. His first collaboration as a flamenco violinist was with the Ballets Flamenco Arte de España in the production Azafràn. To better understand flamenco, she decided to devote herself to the different forms of this art.
She studied dance with Delphine Mantha, Katherine Oliveri and Myriam Allard and took part in workshops with masters: La Truco, Pepa Molina, La Tati, Joaquin Grilo, Marco de Ana, Manuel Reyes, Juan Polvillo, Mariano Cruceta, Inmaculada Ortega, Joaquin Ruiz.
As for singing, she perfected her vocal technique with Francine Poitras, from Cirque du Soleil, and with José Luis Pérez, Marcos Marin, Rafael Jiménez Falo, Sandra Carrasco and Sara Salado, flamenco singing.
Kristin received a scholarship from the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec in 2011 to go to Spain for further training. She has participated in several theatrical productions, among others, Pour en fin avec Cyrano by Théâtre Motus, winner of the Prix Accès Culture awarded during the 2011 edition of the Bourse RIDEAU, Don Quichotte at the TNM, winner of the Masque production Montréalais, and at the musical Cabaret at the Rideau Vert.
Kristin Molnár makes several appearances, on television, radio and in the cinema: In the universe of…Isabelle Boulay, Le petit ciel, Pleasure grows with use, Christiane Charette live, Pink Cadillac, ADISQ gala , Gemini gala, It's much better in the morning, Indicative present, Y'é trop de bonheur, Sophie's Choice Val-de-Marne Festival and the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
She has also toured and/or recorded with the following artists: Star Académie Tour 2009, Blues Gitan, Daniel Boucher, Yann Perreau, Andrea Lindsay, Tricot Machine, Coeur de Pirate, Raoul, Ann Victor Jeszcze Raz, Thierry Sechan, Duo Fortin -Awakened, Without Pressure, Lousnak.
She made a few appearances as an actress, notably on the big screen in Jean-Sébastien Lord's Le Petit Ciel and in various television series including the Last Humans and as a solo violinist for film scores including L'Ange de goudron, Karmina and Hunt of Justice: The Louise Arbor story.
She also landed a leading role in the short film Rendez-vous dans l'inachevé by Richard Jutras, winner of the Best Short Film award at the International Meeting of Cinema, TV, Video and Multimedia at Avanca in Portugal.
Finally, as a violin teacher at Joseph-François Perreault high school, Kristin shares her knowledge with young people.
