Our mission

The Camp Musical des Laurentides is aimed at musicians
who already have a solid training in their discipline
and who wish to benefit from intensive courses with a team of distinguished professors.

The Laurentian Music Center was founded in 1985 by Raymond Dessaints and Johanne Arel. It has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Communications since 1997 as one of the three professional level music training camps in Quebec.

The Laurentian Music Center lies near the shores of lake St.Denis just 80km from Montreal in an inspiring setting at the foot of one of the highest peaks in the Laurentians.

Here, musicians with a solid background in their field can join intensive courses given by music tutors of an extraordinary calibre.

The Laurentian Music Center is recognized by La Fédération des Harmonies du Québec.

Management

Johanne Arel

Cofounder, General Director, Violin teacher

Johanne Arel founded the Laurentian Music Camp with her husband Raymond Dessaints in 1985. She was assistant director until 2017 and succeeded Raymond as general director. She continues the work they created together and still teaches during the advanced level string and piano sessions.

Josée Aidans

Assistant Director and Violin

A former student of Raymond Dessaints and Johanne Arel at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, Josée Aidans began her path at the Camp musical as a student in 1988. In 2000, she joined the teaching staff and became the marketing manager. She has been the assistant director since 2017 and is also the president of the Fondation du Camp musical des Laurentides. She teaches violin in the advanced string and piano sessions.
