Native of Saguenay, Renée Lapointe holds two master's degrees, one in performance (singing) and another in instrumental didactics. She received the Raoul-Jobin Prize in 1990 and, as part of the Cultural Excellence Awards in 1993, the Stage Prize, both awarded by the Fondation de l'Opéra de Québec.
In addition to her remarkable recital and oratorio performances both at home and abroad, Renée Lapointe has sung, among others, the roles of CARMEN and MERCÉDES in Bizet's Carmen, of MÉLISANDE in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, of BRADAMANTE in Alcina by Händel, by HERMIA in A Midsummer Night's Dream by Britten, by ORESTES in La Belle Hélène, by Offenbach, PAULINE in La Dame de pique by Tchaikovsky and by GIANNETTA in L'Elisir d' Love by Donizetti.
Leading an active career as a soloist, Renée Lapointe has sung under the direction of such prestigious conductors as Eduardo Mata, Kent Nagano, Bernard Labadie, Hervé Niquet, Charles Dutoit, Yoav Talmi, etc. She has also performed with the Orchester Mondial des Jeunesses Musicales, the Alcan Quartet, the Ensemble Arion, the NEF, the Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal (SMAM), the Ensemble Anonymus, I Musici de Montréal, Quartango, the Orchester symphonique de Montréal, the Orchester symphonique de Québec and Les Violons du Roy.
In 2001, Ms. Lapointe toured the Netherlands, playing the lead role of ROSA in the musical drama Leitmotiv, in collaboration with the Théâtre des Deux Mondes. In 2004, she sang the role of Sadia during the creation of the symphonic version of the rock opera Starmania by Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon, with the Orchester symphonique Montréal. This production was revived in 2005 in Paris and Quebec.
An artist sought after for her warm and supple voice, her charismatic presence and her versatility, she is regularly invited to major musical events, such as the Festival de Wallonie (Belgium), the Festival de Loches (France) and the Festival international de Lanaudière ( Quebec).
Since 2007, Ms. Lapointe has been teaching at the Gatineau Music Conservatory.
