A native of Montreal, trumpeter Henri Ferland is a graduate of McGill University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in performance with a minor in Baroque trumpet under Richard Stoelzel and Alexis Basque. It was under Basque’s guidance that he was introduced to playing period brass instruments, before continuing his studies at the Montreal Conservatory of Music, where he earned a master’s degree in Stéphane Beaulac’s class. A versatile and sought-after musician, he has held the position of second trumpet with the Gatineau Symphony Orchestra since 2019, while also regularly performing with several Canadian ensembles. He has performed as a guest musician with the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Quebec City Symphony Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. Committed to training the next generation of musicians, Henri has been teaching at the Pre-Conservatory of the Montreal Conservatory of Music since 2023. He has furthered his studies in Canada, Mexico, and Europe under the guidance of internationally renowned teachers, including Omar Tomasoni, Giuliano Sommerhalder, Jeroen Berwaerts, Jean-François Madeuf, and Konradin Groth.
