Geneviève D'Ortun is an artist with a passion for creation, improvisation and travel. Holder of a doctorate in contemporary saxophone and mixed music with exceptional distinction (Université de Montréal), she currently performs with Ensemble ILÉA (electroacoustic free improvisation) and Ensemble Déplacer d'l'air (saxophones and electroacoustics), as well as in theaters with Toqaq Mecimi Puwiht (Ondinnok and La Vieille 17) and Jazz-Noisettes (Jeunesses Musicales du Canada). She can be heard on numerous albums, including L'Étoile Absinthe, Multi.Cosmes et Post.Variations (ILÉA), Le Silence des Troupeaux (Philippe Brach), Ascensions (Shaun Ferguson), Parler de Paradis (Monique Poirier), and more.
Her artistic approach and career revolve around a deep connection between the public and her love of art. She creates works of contemporary music, plays in house orchestras, embodies characters in musical theater... Geneviève also designs and produces sound environments for circus, short films, theater and dance - she won an Éloize award for the music of Horizon vertical (contemporary dance on stilts).
In addition to composition and performance, this multi-instrumentalist has classical and contemporary training: Université de Montréal with Jean-Marc Bouchard, Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal with Claude Brisson, Joseph-François-Perreault, Le Plateau.
She has taken part in numerous master classes with Jean-Marie Londeix, Timothy McAllister, Xavier Rosselle, Jean-François Guay and others.Geneviève D'Ortun also holds a bachelor's degree in teaching (Université de Moncton), and has been sharing her passion for wind instruments in several Montreal-area institutions and in Acadia for some twenty years.
